What do you do if your husband is verbally abusive and controlling with the money and personal time and you have children?

Answer:

Answer

Well, abusers very rarely change their behavior, and an attempt at getting him to change could be dangerous. The abuser does need psychological help, but that cannot be forced on him. His control over you will continue to increase as you stay with him, and any attempt to defy him will make him angry, and he will feel that he has to "show you your place". Although he may slander you, and point out all of your insecurities, do not believe him. Be proud of who are, and stay confident.

You will probably need to move away, for the sake of your children. This does depend on the severity of his abusive nature. Growing up without a father can have a very negative effect on a child, but not to the degree of growing up with an abusive, over-controlling parent.

I hope this helps, and if you do move out; then don't forget to get yourself into some therapy so that you can better understand the reasons that he acted the way he did, and that the situation was (and is) not your fault.
