Well if they are strays it is best to not call the council since stray kittens/cats are usually thought of as pests for the community. So the best thing to do is to call a rescue/shelter for animals where they can be put up for adoption and have a happy home. Or to find someone else to take care of it.

Or you could keep it?

It is normal for a cat to leave its kittens for short times to hunt for food (for itself, then when the kittens are weaned, for them also).

Make sure the mother cat is fed properly, she has clean water several times a day. The bedding should be kept clean. The cat and her kittens should be in a big enough box or container where there is room for shavings for the kittens to go to the bathroom. Mom can take care of the rest.

Make sure all the kittens are out of her. I would recommend a check up by your Veterinarian. That way your Vet can check her over and make sure she has had all the kittens, plus check out the kittens while you have her there.

Make sure you have a box or some kind of nest made up for her in a nice warm area that is fairly private. Make sure the kittens & Mom are flea free. Offer her lots of good quality kitten food since she is making milk to feed her kittens. I would use a good quality dry kitten food. Also make sure she has access to clean fresh water and a clean litter box too. Don't forget about deworming Mom and kittens at around 4 weeks of age and vaccinations should be begin at around 7-8 weeks of age. Ask your Vet about this.

Well, Its simple enough! A cat of mine , Echoclaw, had kits. There is not much you can actually do, but you need to stay well away from her when she is having them or she may feel her kits are in danger. A she-cat would rather eat her kits than let them come to any other harm and if she thinks you might harm her kits, well.. But that is very, very rare. Also, try to give her a very private spot, like a cardboard box with a blancket inside a wardrobe would be ideal. She will clear up all the mess for you. Also, don't touch her kits soon after the birth as because they have your scent on, she may reject them and though you could feed them with a syringe, they could still die.

The most important thing is to make sure she has a safe, dry, soft place to have her kittens in - a roomy cardboard box with old towels or sheets in the bottom and a towel or sheet tossed over the top works great. Most cats have birth just fine by themselves - they are, in fact, the only domestic species that can assist themselves by pulling out a stuck kitten. You should keep an eye on her, but otherwise leave her alone. The entire process will take several hours.

Afterwards, make sure you handle both her and the kittens gently so that everyone gets used to being handled and petted. The mother needs access to clean water and good nutritional food such as kitten kibble - talk to your vet about this.

If you cat is about to have kittens, make sure you have something ready at least two weeks before she is due to have them. A box with blankets should be fine.

While your cat is in labor, try to let her maternal instincts take over, she CAN do it all on her own. But stay at her side just in case something does go wrong.

contractions are normal for cats as well as humans, say kind words and pet her to help her calm down.

if the contractions are bad and last longer than 2 hours, and there are no signs of a kitten coming out, call your vet.

soon a kitten will be born, with a sack of fluid and the mother will start to lick the kitten clean.

If the mother does not bite the umbilical cord, cut it with a pair of scissors, but be sure to tie a knot between the kitten and the cat, otherwise you could endanger your cats life.

The placenta will come right after the kitten, and is normally eaten by the mother.

There is a placenta after every kitten, if there is not, there will be a chance of serious infection in the mother.

after the mother licks the kitten clean, pick her up and place her very close to the mothers nipples, the kitten should start to suck.

other than that, try not to touch the kittens, because the mother will move them. want to know where they are at all times.

If you haven't already, call the vet. The vet will be able to tell you what to do.

The cat should be provided a birthing box with several layers of towels and blankets. The box should be placed in a quiet room - usually the Queen will use the box soon before labour. Sometimes a Queen will ignore the box completely until birth is imminent.

Many cats will prefer you to be with them during birth. This gives the cat much needed company and comfort and will allow you to keep and eye on the mother and kittens. In the event of anything going wrong, you can call or visit the vet straight away which could save the Queen's and any kitten's lives if a complication does arise.

Be responsible. Get her and the kittens neutered. Animal charities will help with, or pay the full cost of, the surgery.
