What do you do when your neighbors have a barking dog that they cannot control? |
Barking Dogs
Shooting a dog with a pellet gun is absolutely the wrong thing to do, and if it wasn't for the law the neighbour should have received the pellet in the butt. Don't blame the dog, blame the owner. My dogs are brought in at night and large dogs can sleep in laundry rooms, hallways or basements. I sure don't understand some pet owners. They think because the dog is out in the backyard they are protecting the house, but, in reality your dog does more good being in the house with you! I know, my husband works lots of night shifts and not much gets past my dogs.
Most municipalities have some type of noise ordinance which includes barking dogs. Unfortunately there is often a specific time frame. Such as "no excessively loud music after 11:00 p.m."
Sometimes the only recourse is to file a formal complaint with the local police dept. If there is a anti-noise ordinance the police will issue a citation to the dog owner. If the owner does not take action to remedy the situation they can be fined.
Here is more input and advice:
- My neighbor also has annoying barking dogs. I talked to my neighbor, he just denies that they are too loud and talks about how nice they are. I agree that they are nice dogs but way too loud. He apologizes but does nothing. I spoke with the animal control, they recommended documenting when and how ofted the dogs bark (excessively) before filing a complaint. Instead, I went and made friends with the dogs. Now when they bark too much I just hollar at them calling them by name and demanding that the stop. They listen to me. This does not happen in all cases though.
- I too had barking beagles behind my house. After getting nowhere by talking to neighbor, I decided that a well placed pellet right in the butt might do the trick. It didn't really work for long, but I felt better!
- I too had this problem. I have dogs of my own and find it unacceptable to listen to neighbors dogs barking through the night. I talked to the neighbor with no results. I called the city dog warden and the neighbor was given a warning. It continued and so did my phone calls. The neighbor finally paid a $500 uncontrollable dog fine and put his dogs in the garage every night thereafter. The dog problem is solved. Be persistent but watch for repercussions from the neighbor in question.
