You would eat no food to lose weight but skipping out on food would not guarantee losing a pound in one day. In addition, you would add stress to the body by trying to lose that much weight.
To give you an idea: one pound of body fat is equal to 3,500 calories and unless you are eating that much a day, you won't lose one pound. You can also lose water weight but when you start eating and drinking regular food, water weight comes right back.
