The best option is to find a wildlife rehabilitator or animal care center that has experience. The next best help is to get with a birdstore owner or someone who has had experience handfeeding baby birds. DO NOT GIVE IT WATER. Baby birds will aspirate on water & die. They get all their moisture from food.
A grackle is nearly omnivorous - adults eat insects, mice, frogs, seeds, grains, etc. I am handfeeding a baby grackle, and have been interchanging little parrot pellets soaked in water, softbill pellets soaked in water (bird stores carry both), itty bitty pieces of scrambled eggs (the best & most favorite food), meal worms (I squish their heads & sometimes break them in half for smaller bites, and early on before the bird had feathers I used a commercial baby bird formulay with a syryinge (Exact).
If you haven't fed a baby bird before, it can be a maddening experience. It needs to be at least every 20 minutes. All day - from 6-7 am through to 10pm. No exceptions. That's why it's best to take it to someone that is dedicated to just that purpose. The other reason, is that the baby will bond to you, will not learn about the real world & predators, etc., and will be so friendly towards humans & pets that it may be killed by frightened stupid people or their dogs, and it is illegal to keep such a bird. Some people do anyway, so just understand that it will live 10-15 years in captivity. This is a lifelong choice.
Good luck with the baby!
The best way to feed a baby squirrel is with a small syringe filled with formula. They must be fed many times over the course of the day.
What I believe you should do is take the squirrel to the closest rehabilitation center. And tell them how the squirrel reacted when you found him/her.
Yea if you feed it formula and take care of it.
i will not tell you because you may not feed that baby squirrel the food i was about to give . ask a vet . ask its mother . but do not ask me . i am not a squirrel expert . neither is my dog . she eats them .
I raised a litter of 4 baby squirrels. I would feed them 2 or 3 times a day. You can tell when they are done eating when their bellies are big and round and sometimes (depending on the squirrel) they will just stop eating on their own.
A baby squirrel is called a kitten.
A baby Mexican grey squirrel.
The cat milk will not have all the nutrients, or enough of the nutrients that the squirrel requires. I'm no expert and i don't think it will hurt the squirrel but it would be better if the baby squirrel could have its mother instead. or course if the mother is out of the option you could always talk to a vet or wildlife management; there should also be plenty of info on the web about it; but don't feed it processed milk. if the cat will let the squirrel nurse then go ahead and let it be but look for other options because there may be something in the cat milk that would be detrimental the the baby squirrels health.
An orphaned baby squirrel should be fed puppy milk only if it is less than five weeks old. Ensure there is also fresh water available for the baby. It is of the utmost importance to keep the baby warm.
