It means that you are just as likely to suffer adverse effects from exposure to Asbestos (of any colour) than someone who has had no significant contact with Asbestos whatsoever. It is a disclaimer only and in that respect much like a label on a cigarette packet that says "smoking causes impotence"... It MAY cause impotence in SOME, but there are always SOME who become impotent who have never smoked in their lives. Anything to do with Asbestos is a big thing these days. I have worked with it in the past, and so long as you employ common sense there is no reason that you would become ill from it. Use a filtered mask (a circulated mask is ideal, as they generaly have built in eye-protection) and keep as much of your body covered as possible so as to avoid any nasty crap getting into the pores of your skin. Be just as carefull with your eyes - you only get one pair and experience has taught me that it doesnt take much to damage them. You get an Asbestos splinter in your eye and you will know about it for years! As long as youre not stupid about it theres little danger, and the same can be said for anything that involves chemicals, hazardous substances, heavy machinary and power tools. USE YOUR COMMON SENSE. If you dont have any, ask someone nearby who does! It's also a subversive attempt to avoid any legal action that could be attributed to asbestos poisoning. This type of disclaimer or pronouncement is becoming more common on all hazardous materials. (irrelevant answer removed from here. S)

What types of cancer are caused by asbestos?

While the term " asbestos cancer " most often refers to mesothelioma, a number of other cancers are associated with asbestos exposure. Lung cancer, for example, is a direct result of asbestos exposure, and some studies have suggested an association between asbestos exposure and gastrointestinal and colorectal cancer. Mesothelioma cancer is the only asbestos-related cancer almost exclusively caused by asbestos. Mesothelioma can develop after someone inhales or ingests elevated amounts of asbestos over time. Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in the United States and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration calls it "the greatest health risk for American asbestos workers." Asbestos-related lung cancers are diagnosed more frequently than any other type of asbestos-connected disease. The Environmental Working Group estimates that between 5,000 and 10,000 asbestos-related lung cancer fatalities have occurred each year over the span of the last two decades.

Is everyone who has mesothelioma entitled to compensation?

"Mesothelioma is a cancer that affects cells in a person's vital organs such as the heart or lungs. Mesothelioma is most commonly caused by exposure to asbestos, which can be found in building materials made before the 1970s. Those with the disease can seek compensation from asbestos manufacturers or from employers that did not protect employees from the dangers of asbestos. In general all mesothelioma sufferers are entitled to compensation so long as someone is considered negligent in protecting the sufferer from the illness."

What Is The Connection Between Mesothelioma and Asbestos?

Many people are inherently afraid of asbestos. They may not know exactly why, but they remember being told to avoid it at some point in their lives. Several years ago, illnesses rated to asbestos began to climb and news sources ran with the information. Soon, businesses, schools and homes were all being investigated for the prevalence of asbestos between their walls, used as insulation. However, there is a lot of confusion regarding asbestos and its dangers. Small amounts of exposure to asbestos are highly unlikely to cause illness. However, extended exposure to it (such as by someone who may work with it professionally), may cause a severe form of cancer such as mesothelioma. If you are among the people who are unfamiliar with asbestos and mesothelioma, here are a few quick facts regarding the natural fiber and the disease it can cause. Many mistakenly believe asbestos is a manufactured material. It is actually a naturally-occurring fiber. Asbestos is commonly used for insulation because it is flame-retardant, strong, and resistant to chemicals. It is one of the best insulators available today and this is why it is commonly used in buildings both commercial and residential. Small amounts of exposure to asbestos will not cause illness. This is why it is continued to be used as insulation in numerous buildings. However, long-term exposure to asbestos can lead to mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer where malignant cells are found in the mesothelium, the protective sac that covers most of the body's internal organs. The primary victims of this form of cancer are people who have repeated exposure to asbestos and have inhaled its particles. 2,000 new cases of asbestos-related mesothelioma are reported in the U.S. each year. It is still a rare form of the disease. Mesothelioma infects the mesothelium and causes the cells to become abnormal and begin to divide without order. This soon infects nearby tissues and organs and rapidly spreads throughout the body. Unfortunately this cancer can appear in either men or women of any age. 70 to 80 percent of all cases are linked to those with experience working with asbestos. The best way to prevent mesothelioma is to avoid any extended exposure to asbestos. If you have chosen a career which requires your handling of the fiber, make sure to always wear a protective mask to help prevent you from inhaling any particles. Many places have begun campaigns to stop the usage of asbestos as insulation in buildings, citing its damaging effects. However, there is little evidence to support that those in buildings with asbestos insulation will get the disease. Mesothelioma is obtained after many years of exposure and direct contact to asbestos, which makes people in buildings which use it as an insulator at a very low risk, if at all.

What Are Asbestos Attorneys?

You have likely heard of asbestos before and subsequently you are probably even slightly afraid of it even if you aren’t sure what it is. You know it is that stuff in the roof and it has something to do with insulation. You also know that if you are exposed to it, it could cause illness. For many that is the extent of their knowledge of asbestos. Here are a few quick facts. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fiber. It is resistant to heat and most chemicals which make it a very popular choice for insulation in residential and commercial buildings across the country. Most people will be exposed to asbestos at some point in their lives. Most people do not become ill from brief asbestos exposure. In most cases the illnesses are caused by long-term exposure to high concentrations of asbestos (most likely someone who works with the fiber for a living). If you do become ill due to asbestos exposure, you may be due a settlement. Fortunately for you there are a number of asbestos attorneys with specialized learning in the field. It may sound peculiar but the need for specialized legal help is common in a world with growing lawsuit numbers. Each specific case requires an intricate understanding of all details and typically a deeper knowledge of a field than a general attorney may have. As a result asbestos attorneys have emerged. An attorney in this field will offer extensive experience in environmental law as well as a strong understanding of corporate fraud and misconduct. You may mistakenly assume that all attorneys are created equal, but just as any job there are branches in the field and different specializations. In this case it would likely do you little go to hire a constitutional lawyer to fight your case regarding asbestos. Before selecting an attorney, research their case records and make sure you are comfortable with talking with them. Asbestos attorneys offer specialized legal aid through their knowledge and experience with environmental law. Mesothelioma, the rare form of cancer which lines the lungs, abdomen or the heart, is the most common disease caused by asbestos exposure. According to recent reports asbestos exposure is one of the leading causes of occupational disease worldwide. It is estimated that over 3,000 cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed each year. If you have been exposed to asbestos and are currently ill, research asbestos attorneys in your area.
