What does 2 litre engine refer to and how is it determined?

Answer

The total sizes of all the combustion chambers is usually measure in cubical centimeters. The normal sizes vary in Europe from 500cc for extremely small cars up to 5000cmc and more in America. One thousand cubical centimeters mean 1 liter. A 2 liter engine would be an engine that has a total size of all combustion chambers of 2000cc (this is probably a 4 cylinder engine).

Math FYI (U.S. measurments) diameter of one piston 1.5 inches...... area of one piston = 3.14 x radius squared = 3.14x(1.5x1.5) = 7.065sqin......... volume of one cylinder = area of piston x stroke(length the piston travles)= 7.065sqin x 4.32in = 30.52cubic inch..... total displacement of engie = volume of one cylinder x number of cylinders = 30.52 x 4 = 122.08 cubic inch........ 1 cubic inch = 0.016387064 liter 122.08 x 0.016387064 = 2.00053liters....... 1 liter = 61.0237441 cubic inch if you want to go the other way....... for math purposes only, dont know the exact size of the pistons but this is the correct math
