All of the function keys (F1, F2, F3, F4 and so on) don't really stand for anything, F1 just means "function key 1."

However when you press the F1 key on a windows operating system it will usually pull up Help for the operating system or for the program that you are using.

If you're interested in learning more about function keys you can look at the Wikipedia link below

F1 IS JUST ONE OF UP TO 12 FUNCTION KEYS. WITHIN MS WINDOWS IT USUALLY PROVIDES CONTEXT-SENSATIVE HELP. IN OLDER MS-DOS BASED PROGRAMS, THE FUNCTION KEYS CAN BE PROGRAMMED TO DO ANYTHING THE PROGRAMMER WANTS.

These are function keys that are dependent on how the active application chooses to use them.

In windows

F1 - Windows Help

F2 - Rename highlighted icon or file

F3 - Search

F5 - Refresh

Browsers

F6 - Move cursor to the Address bar

F11 - full screen mode

Lots more examples out there, but again, dependent on the application.
