HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is a virus that attacks your immune system (body's natural defense system) which are your white blood cells, specifically, CD4+ cells. The virus & the infections that it causes are consider HIV.
AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It is consider the final stage where you have a low number of CD4+ cells. At this stage you can easily get infections or cancers then a healthy person would. Just because you have HIV does not mean you have AIDS.

∙ 15y agoAIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. HIV means Human Immunodeficiency Virus. The aids is caused by the HIV. Further more, death is not caused by aids but it is caused by other infections such as pnuemonia, tuberculosis, or some times cancer. Because, the HIV affects the helper T cells which activate other lymphocytes or we can say white blood cells.So, when the T cells does not activate the white blood cells there is no defence mechanisms against other diseases such that what have been said.
