What does Judaism teach about money and wealth?

In: Judaism

Answer

There are wealthy people in the Old Testament. However that is by a completely different standard than being wealthy today is. The basic teaching is that you give a percentage back to God.

One also needs to give a percentage to the poor, 10% of your yearly net income.

Judaism teaches that a person's worth is unrelated to his wealth. A wealthy person is considered as G-d's custodian of the money and is expected to use it to benefit the poor and to advance religious studies.
