Lansten was a nickname given to member Lance Bass when he joined the group. He replaced a man named jasoN, who backed out of NSYNC for some reason.

Also, when NSYNC first formed, Justin Timberlake's mother, Lynn Harless, commented on how "in sync" the boys were, and the spelling NSYNC, just happened to be a play on their names.
