Ramadan is part of being a true Muslim. Muslims all over the world fast from sun-up to sun-down. the reason for the celebration is when prophet Mohammed first received the words of Allah or in other words GOD. Ramadan comes one month a year and it is close to the end of the year.

They do this to remind themselves how lucky they may be compared to the poor.

Ramadan celebrates Mohammad's receiving the Qur'an and offers an opportunity for Muslims to purify and hallow themselves before the Creator. Muslims celebrate this by fasting while the sun is up for the entire month of Ramadan (the 9th month in the Islamic Lunar Calendar).

The month of Ramadan commemorates the bringing down of the Quran. It is that month that Allah swt sent the Quran with angel Jibreel to send it down upon the Prophet Mohammad pbuh. It also commemorates the night of Qadr (meaning the night before the day of Qadr) . This night everyone prays from usually after Isha prayer until fajr. No one usually sleeps except the little kids. The morning of this day, if you stare at the sun you won't get blind.
