After bootcamp you go to your first unit. You qualify to be a seaman or fireman and learn about the boats you use. After 6 months you put your name on a school list of your choice. The wait for school is 6 months - 2 1/2 years depending on what school you choose.

∙ 12y agoIf you are an infantry Marine you will go to Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry. If you are a non-infantry Marine you will go to Marine Combat Training Battalion also at the School of Infantry. The SOIs are located at Camp Lejeune NC and Camp Pendleton CA. MCT is 4 weeks long and ITB is 8 weeks long.
