Back in the old school sailor days a tattoo of a clipper under full sail meant that you had sailed around Cape horn, the southern most tip of South America. It was displayed with great pride almost like a medal. This tattoo was earned. Anyone who wore this tattoo without having earned it suffered great consequences from the crew.
