For a non-union building Service clerks $20/hour plus $2/hr for every hour worked paid as an extra check every six months. Sundays are paid at 1.5 X hourly rate. Also, four weeks vacation pay for long time employees, plus 6 personal days to be used as sick leave, more vacation, emergencies, or any reason you choose to not go to work, no questions asked. Plus 6 paid static holidays: New Year's, Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Plus three floating holidays, that you can use a couple weeks before or after the holiday (like MLK). Plus a few thousand for 401K, plus medical, plus dental, plus life insurance. Service assistants (less responsibility jobs) have a lower hourly rate. Supervisors make slightly more ($1 or so) than the highest paid person they supervise. Managers can make substantially more depending on the area/level of Manager and time with the company. Usually, like most jobs, the higher the responsibility the higher the pay, even if you don't physically work as hard, it is the responsibility that earns the higher wage. Warehouse Manager is basically the only person whom receives bonuses based on performance criteria. S/he is also the person with the most challenging (mentally) position. Just dealing with employee problems alone can take a huge chunk of their time and energy. Other Managers do get small bonuses for meeting certain criteria, but it is very little. There are no commission jobs at Costco. Checking receipts or being at the front door greeting people as they walk in is a lot more challenging than you might think. Union buildings the hourly wage is less for all employees. The bonuses and benefits are less also. Oddly enough, it is easier to get laid off or fired from the union buildings.

Can an employer make a manager work 12 hours per day 7 days a week in California?

No employer can 'make' any employee do anything that the employee would prefer not to do, anywhere, because the employee is not a slave. Upon being given an assignment, the employee always has the free choice of three options: 1). Comply 2). Negotiate 3). Walk
