New Answer
Imagine you have a coffee stirrer straw. Notice how thin it is. Now imagine you have that straw in between your lips and can only breathe in what little air you're able to suck through that little straw. It's just not enough air. Then you start to get dizzy. Then you start to panic and the panic just makes it worse. Even when you have your inhalor you can't breathe in well enough to actually get the medication into your system. At about this point you really, truly think you are going to die.
Answer
Like you are suffocating, but slowly. What happens is the airways to the lungs become narrow and airflow is partially restricted when they become irritated. This is because they are super sensitive, more sensitive than the average persons. Two things may cause an asthma attack: 1)Airway Inflammation, 2)Bronchoconstriction. Airway inflammation is when the airways become red, swollen and narrow. Bronchoconstriction is when the muscles that encircle the airways tighten up or go into spasm. Avoid being outside too much, around pollen or any allergens, exercising excessively, smoking or any inhalants that causes nausea or is bad for your health.
