What does bore x stroke mean?

Answer:
Bore = the (internal) diameter of the cylnder hole in the engine block.

Stroke = the distance the piston travels up (or down) the bore during its' cycle.

If you multiply the bore dimension by the stroke dimension you will get the volumetric displacement of that cylinder.

thus,

Vd = (3.1416/4) (dia.) squared x Stroke
