The bum's rush is literally throwing out a vagrant from a bar or an eating establishment. The practice began when such people would try to get free drinkn,s or food from other patrons and the bouncer or proprietor would have to evict the bum from the building. In the old westerns, this was a standard stock footage in front of the saloon.
