Indication means a reason to do something, and contra means against. So a contraindication is a reason to not do something.

In terms of medications, it is the term for reasons a certain medication cannot be used.

It is also important to remember there are two different types of contraindications, absolute and relative. In an absolute contraindication the medication cannot be given to that patient. In relative contraindications, the doctor needs to carefully weigh the pros and cons, because though the medication has serious drawbacks, it may still be an overall benefit to the patient.

A contraindicator is something which makes a procedure or treatment unwise. An example would be when a patient should not take a particular medication because of another one that they are already taking.

How is nitroglycerin given by EMT?

After checking a patient's blood pressure and obtaining a detailed medical history (focusing on medications that might interact with or contraindicate this type of intervention), a patient must contact medical control, ensure that the patient's nitroglycerin is not expired, that it belongs to the patient, and that the patient has not had too much already. If a patient meets all of these requirements, the EMT can assist the patient in taking a nitro tablet by having them place the pill on the underside of the tongue and allowing it to dissolve. Is the condition dysfunction of nervous system contraindicated for massage?

Dysfunction of the nervous system does not contraindicate massage. My personal work involves working with the nervous system to release nerves and muscles. Active stimulation of the nerves, although painful, and with probable bruising, can improve nerve conductivity, increase mobilization, almost immediately restore range of motion, and is deeply appreciated by those who have grown familiar with the technique. I have seen rapid progress with those recovering from injury, suffering from MS, fibromyalgia, and loss of range of motion. If properly done it almost always alleviates pain within the hour.
