"Oval" means the same thing in Australia as it does in America, an elongated circle. I think what you think it means is the answer to this question, "What does 'Date' mean in Australian slang?"
To give something a "burl" means to try it out, usually for the first time.Practical example: "We are having roast wombat for dinner. It tastes a bit like koala. Go on, give it a burl."
I am an Anglo/Australian of 45 years. I know of no slang 'to smoodge'. If you heard an OZ saying it, he/she was probably saying 'to smooch' in US 'to make out' in UK to 'snog'
