Deus ex machina / Dea ex machina - literal "god / godess out of a machine". An artificial, or improbable character, device, or event introduced suddenly in a work of fiction or drama to resolve a situation or untangle a plot (e.g. an angel suddenly appearing to solve problems).
Deus Ex Machina is a Greek term for God out of the machine. The Greeks never meant this literaly. Often used by Greeks to explain that it was an "improbable, unlikely or unexpected force which rose to occasion. (A rise to the occasion here means "living up to standards, going above and beyond whats expected")
