Basically, it means, "You're on your own, kid." More seriously, it means the teenager is to be considered an adult in all ways. So if you're with non-emancipated teens who end up killing someone, they could be held as minors, but the emancipated person is charged as an adult-- as soon as the police or prosecutor knows the teen is emancipated. It means parents aren't responsible for your housing, bills, medical, or legal expenses. You can't get in trouble, then try to claim you are still a teen / a minor.

Everything you do-- and don't do--- is on you, and you suffer your own consequences. Don't pay your rent, you can get evicted. Don't Register your car and pay insurance, and police catch you, it is your car they will impound. Wreck it-- on you. Don't go to school so you are truant, that's on you; your parents can't be fighting your battles for you. And, depending how many bridges you burned with your parents, they might be too hurt to even speak to you. So you might be alone for big events, like prom and HS graduation.

It can be exciting to think about being free from your parents. But it can be nicer, in the long run, to stay a legal minor until you're older.
