And peace on earth to men of good will is the English equivalent of 'Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis'. In the word by word translation, the conjunction 'et' means 'and'. The preposition 'in' means 'in'. The feminine gender noun 'terra' means 'land'. The feminine gender noun 'pax' means 'peace'. The masculine gender noun 'hominibus' means 'to men'. The adjective 'bonae' means 'of good'. The feminine gender noun 'voluntatis' means 'of will'.

It is a quote, in Latin, from The Bible, where it says, in English: "and on earth peace, good will toward men."

The full verse says "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." - Luke 2:14, King James Version (KJV), 1611.

'Men' means mankind, people, humankind, all persons, not just adult males of the human species.

More recent versions/translations of Luke 2:14 may be easier to understand than the KJV, although, in this case, the meaning of the verse is fairly obvious from the King James Version.

The above answers are not based on a knowledge of the Latin language which is unchaged for thousands of years. Rather, the answers are based on ingnorance.

The word hominibus is the Latin declension of the word for man and is the dative declension which means "to men." After this word comes the phrase "bonae voluntatis" which is a different declension. After use of the dative for to men, the declension for "bonae voluntatis" is genative. There is only one genative declension for bonae and it is singular. The only possible and correct translation of the words "bonae voluntatis" is "of good will." Consequently, the only correct translation of "Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis" is " And peace on Earth to men of good will." It is unfortunate that this ignorance persists with respect to Latin, but the Scriptures are clear. Peace on earth is contigent upon having good will, not feeling good or having good thoughts.
