Global warming is self explanatory. It is the concept where the earth warms up. It is also the reason for climate change.

When the temperature of the planet as a whole increases, this increases the amount of ice that melts at the polar icecaps and in glaciers. This then leads to sea levels rising, causing lowest level land areas to go under water and to a higher probability of flooding in the remaining low level land areas. Also sea temperatures increase in general leading to the increase and severity of hurricanes.

The above are just the basics. The earth is a complex system so many other changes occur. Alpine regions become isolated from each other, thus certain species become "trapped" on a particular mountain because it is too warm for them to migrate to other mountains.
