There are two different kinds of conflict. There's External which means, like a character in the story verses nature, or a character verses society, or it could even mean one character faces another. But, internal conflict is something like a mental debate with the inside of a character. Their arguing with themselves. For example, if you really wanted to go with your friends one night out drinking or just messing around and then another group wants you to go with them to watch a movie at the theater. Then you're having a conflict inside yourself debating which group to go with, this is internal conflict.

Internal conflict in a story refers to a struggle that a character experiences within themselves, such as conflicting emotions, desires, beliefs, or fears. It often involves a character grappling with difficult decisions, moral dilemmas, or inner turmoil that can drive the plot forward and lead to character development.

Internal conflict is where the character is debating a choice that revolves around his personal morals, like if he has to kill someone to save another's life even if he doesn't believe that killing is right, or if he has to make a decision between two things that he thinks are equally wrong.
