I have had two children in a natural birth environment, so there weren't any medications to dull my feelings. I saw everything!
When the baby's head starts to come out, or 'crown', her skull actually compresses in order to fit! So it looks like brains, because her skin is mushed. LOL It's wet with blood and amniotic fluid, and when the baby finally gets all the way out, a rush of fluid follows. (Like a cork on a bottle!)
The baby's head goes right back to normal after birth. Then the placenta is 'born' after the baby. The umbilical cord is attached to the placenta, so when the baby comes out, the placenta does too. It's about the size of a dinner plate!
I hope this answer is better than the previous one. Birth is not loud. If the mother is screaming, it's loud, but nothing about the actual birth is loud.
