The fox has a number of symbolic meanings, camouflage, and the ability to meld with one's surroundings is the first to come to mind. The skillful provider is another.

Fox is said to embody adaptability, awareness, cunning, skill, and intelligence.

If fox is your personal totem or spirit guide then this could be a reminder that even the best of us sometimes get caught unawares, sometimes to our determent. However, not all naturally occurring phenomenon are to be interpreted as omens.

If you are traveling in a car it means slow down and watch for more deer. They travel in groups and if one goes across more will follow.

If you are walking on a trail it means stop, sit down quietly for a break and watch for more.

Not all naturally occurring phenomenon can or should be interpreted as a sign or omen. This is one such case. Most people encounter "wildlife" depending on where they live and how good their powers of observation are. If every creature that you see/encounter had a "significance" you would be so busy interpreting them you wouldn't get anything done EVER.

In some cases, as when the animal is of personal significance to us, or when we have "asked for a sign," the encounters do mean something. In such cases the breed of bird, and its actions need to be taken into consideration.
