Depends on what "signals" you have sent him. If he picked up that you started to sound bored when he called then he might have stopped because he felt like you didn't want too talk to him, or he might think that you think he is being too forward.

Maybe he wants to see if you will call him, just to see if you like him enough to make the effort.

Or maybe he just doesn't want to talk to you anymore and is trying to break contact with you :/ I dunno
