The old way of thinking is that if they build their dreys low, there will be a mild winter. Of course when they do so high, its the opposite.
I say that a squirrels nest is smaller because a squirrels nest is up in a tree. A rats nest is bigger because they usally live underground which is bigger than a tree.
This is a link to a page showing leaves, and a squirrel nest made of oak leaves. Pretty much looks like a large clump of leaves in the top of a tree. http://grandpacliff.com/Trees/AutLeaves.htm
Squirrels build nests, called dreys, by collecting twigs, leaves, fur, feather or anything in nature to help keep in warm and putting it all together much like a bird does. They are usually found high in the tree on a very strong branch. Another nest, called a den, is the hollowed out part of a tree trunk.
different species live in different places.Grey squirrels live in Canada and America.Red squirrels live in places like Europe.Fox squirrels live in Canada too and in other places like Arizona.
Yes squirrels do have nest, they have their nest up high in trees but not too high in trees that the wind witth destroy the nest but high enough so that the ground preditors won't attack them
Squirrels need oak trees because he needs to put his nuts in the oak tree and he needs to build his nest in the oak tree.

You really can't tell if you're going to have a bad winter by how high a squirrels nest is in the tree. This is just a myth.
No. Three animals are not build in a tree. But a nest is build in a tree
probably that tree squirrels live in trees and have better climbing capabilities and ground squirrels build burrows and dig more.

Many birds make their nest on a tree such as a Woodpecker, Nuthatch and a Tree Creeper.

in a tree
They typically live in a squirrel nest, but they can build them in tree hollows or corners of buildings. If you look at the trees around you in the winter and fall, you may see what looks like a ball of dead leaves up in the branches. That would be a squirrel nest.
