This happened to me when my Throttle Position Sensor went out. The trac light came on and the transmission started shifting roughly. The sensor costs about $30 at Autozone and is very easy to replace. Problem solved.
Answerit means the car has low traction, such as spinning on gravel, or in wet grass.I also had this problem with the light on constantly after I had new tires put on. My brother, a mechanic for 20+ years, told me that if the tires were just a slight bit out of round, it may cause this problem. It resolved itself in about 10 days.
