First obtain a good, preferrably high expert, annual rifle marksmanship score, then request to go to a sniper INDOC. If you pass the INDOC, you report to sniper school. If you pass sniper school, then you go back to the fleet. You also need a gt score above 110. PFT score in the high first class range. Most units require you to have been on a previous deployment. Lets not forget being in the 03 field also. (infantry) Different platoons have different requirements. Units that are hurting for guys might tend to be real relaxed about certain things such as PFT. You may get by with a 225. Units that have one or two slots open however, will be extremely competitive. You have to understand that you need to get your ducks in a row to even take the indoc. Rifle score, GT score, PFT, and not getting NJPs. Then when you take the indoc it's a competition between you and everyone else there. Then when you get to the platoon, it's a competition to get a school slot. Then at school you have a better chance of failing than you do of passing statistically. Best advice I can give you is that you need to take each step one at a time and to never quit. It's doable, but it will be the hardest thing you might ever do.

Wanna prove me wrong??? You go ahead and try out for a SS position, your all talk my friend. I bet you you could knock a penny off a chunk of wood from 100+ yards.

Wow, I thought my previous response would have proven that I've been there and done that. Anyways, I graduated from Pendelton and I went to Iraq twice. I served as an assistant team leader my first tour and then as a team leader. I've also been to the urban sniper course out at Pendelton. Not the old one, the new one. So tell me what you've done. You sound like you know how to do internet research and watch movies judging by your responce that coriolis effect is important in any way to being a sniper in the military. Either you are a long range shooter wanna be man hunter or you are a 12 year old kid who plays too much Call of Duty and watched Shooter without your parent's permission.

imagine someone ripping out your heart and soul and everything you've learned and loved in life and just throwing it away so you can take one for the team. No one cares about you, if you die or live, they just want you to do your job and stfu. I've been a SS for a few years wanting to work for my GSgt rank. If you are a person to run around and tell your friends "yeah look at me im a sniper" then im gunna let you get back to your call of duty. but if you can handle losing everything thing you love to take that shot...then you may have a chance to be in the lineup to see if you are physically qualified. then if you pass that then you can move onto tests and SSBT for awhile well just see how long you could even make it before you fail out of that

As of Fiscal year 2009 a major change in curriculum has occurred with the Scout Sniper Basic Course (SSBC) and it has been shortened from the traditional 10 week course to a 8 1/2 week course. This has been done concurrently with the removal of the Advanced Course and the addition of the Team Leader Course of 4 weeks. Furthermore, all SSBCs now fall under Reconnaissance Training Command (RTC) and are further subject to TECOM. This reduction of 1 1/2 weeks is because of the removal of the mission planning phase of the course and the addition of this curriculum to the Team Leader Course.

Over all it is a 14 weeks that does not count basic training to get into the Marines.

To be eligible to attend SFAS, you need to be at least an E4 (Specialist or Corporal). You need to complete both SFAS and the Q course. As for the sniper bit, see the related question linked at the bottom.

Worry about getting in the Corps first mate. Once you're in you will be given the oppurtunity to specialise as a sniper, if you're good enough.

You could train but it is possible that you do not have the innate natural ability to shoot that well.
