Vanlencian Paella is made up of: White rice; green vegetables; meat and seasoning. (Especially saffron)

Saffron rice. Holy Trinity, cook the rice in seafood broth. Other ingredients are added with a 20 minute cooking time (pre-cook the chicken thighs, leave the mussels and oysters until the last minute) Gotta scorch the bottom layer of the rice, just a little, to firm it up. I do mine in my grandma's old cast iron skillet. Friends do it in a wok, or even a dedicated paella pan.

Anything you want really, some have seafood, some have meat, and some are mixed. The more popular paellas are mixed paella with chicken, chorizo sausage, shrimp, mussels, clams, langostine (or lobster), pimentos, rice, peas, and SAFFRON. The original paellas in Valencia even had rat meat (but I wouldn't recommend it).

It means 'paella.' 'Paella' is 'paella' in ANY language. It's the name of a famous Spanish rice and seafood dish.

Paella is not a proper noun. If it were then pot pie would also be a proper noun. Paella is the Catalan word for pan. It is widely accepted as the national dish of Spain but by most Spaniards it is a regional dish from Valencia. But it is true, paella means paella. It has no transliterate equivalent. It is made in a single pan with rice, beans, vegetables and either chicken, rabbit or seafood.

There is a school of thought that describes the word as "para ella" "For her", which is like totin priviliges in the old south. Them's leftovers, she kin takiem home.

There's a lot more flavor in shrimp heads than tails. (Bet you didn't know that). Who Gets the Pearl? was a dinnertime entertainment. Lotsa oysters didn't make the cut. Plis like, rice, who really cares? Give it to the maid, or the scullion or whoever. "Es para ella"
