Multiplication (A times B, A x B, A*B) is the process of summing a number a particular number of times. The result is called a product.

A x B = the number B appearing A times

which is the same as A appearing B times: A x B = B x A

Examples:

3 x 4 = (4 + 4 +4) = (3 + 3 + 3 + 3)

2 x 100 = (100 + 100) or 100 of the number 2

To take a number and add itself a certain number of times, it depends on the number.

Examples of multiplication:

2*6=2+2+2+2+2+2=12

1*8=8

0*7=0

Rules of Thumbs:

Rule of Left Thumb: 1 times any number gives you the number other than 1 (except for 1*1 which equals 1)

Examples:

1*3=3

6*1=6

1*1000000=1000000

Rule of Right Thumb: 0 times any number gives you 0 (doesn't matter what the other number is, any number times 0 is 0)

Examples:

0*1=0

0*56=0

0*10000723467123917423857891=0
