2 choices:
First, you've placed a wrong formated Disc into the unit, or a CD instead of a DVD...
Second, the unit doesn't have a Disc installed, or it's just "dead" and can't read any Formated Discs...
It means that there is no disc in your DVD player or the disc cannot be read
E.G Scratched, colored in or broken.
it means that there is no disc in the DVD player

Yes, A DVD player has the capacity to show a VCD disc. However, a VCD player cannot show a DVD disc.
Either your disc is scratched or you have a dirty DVD player. Just open it up and blow lightly into the DVD player. No spit. Nothing. Just blow lightly and the dust will be gone. And to wash your disc just take some cotton and gently rub it all over the disc. and if it still doent work. Are you sure its a DVD disc?
Put it in a CD player.
Once you have the CD or DVD ROM in your computer, and you have the file ready to be written on the disc, burn it to the disc. To do this, ... on Windows XP/Vista/7: File> Burn to disc When it says "Do you want to make this disc a data CD or a DVD?" Select DVD. Wait for it to eject the disc and then put it in a DVD player and it SHOULD work. terminator555
DVD = Digital Video Disc.
That means that the disc cannot be read
Either the player is wearing out or the DVD is badly scratched and therefore it cannot play anymore. A solution would be to either get a new DVD player if thhe player is the problem, or buy a new disc of the movie if the disc is the problem. You can even purchase a DVD player lens cleaner which is actually a DVD that cleans the gears inside the player.
you need a dvd compatible disc not a cd
No
No, you cannot. The disc will fit in the DVD player, but the DVD player will spit it out because it does not recognize the format.
