What does rigor mean?

Answer:
This is a morbid subject. The term Rigor mortis is taken from the latin (rigor is stiff) and refers to the stiffening of the muscles following death. This is caused by myosin-actin cross bridges forming and not being able to unlatch in the absence of ATP. After death there is no oxidative phosporylation.
