it is like trying to keep a team from covering the point spread
it is illegal. sometimes a player would lose purposely for money, but not usually in professional sports. at least i dont think so, those guys are rich already. used happens in college alot. referees can do this also and make unfair calls or throw a game. as recently as last year a ref was caught
