Under the Fifth Amendment:
Grand Jury Clause You cannot be charged with a serious federal crime unless you have been indicted by a grand jury that has reviewed the evidence and facts of the crime. This clause does not apply to the military.
Double Jeopardy You cannot be tried twice for the same crime.
Self Incrimination You cannot be compelled or forced to testify against yourself in criminal proceedings. You can choose "to remain silent".
Due Process The government must obey all written laws whenever it deals with people.You must be treated fairly and fully informed of the issues involved any time the government deals with you in a criminal or administrative matter.
Eminent Domain If the government needs to take your property for some public use it must pay you a reasonable amount in compensation.
