Alaska's state flag features the Big Dipper and the North Star set against a blue background. The stars' gold color is meant to be representative of the state's abundant mineral resources. It was designed in 1927 by Benny Benson, a middle school student from Seward, Alaska. http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en-commons/thumb/9/91/300px-Flag_of_Alaska.svg.png
It has eight gold stars on a deep blue field with seven smaller stars nearer the fly forming the big dipper and a larger single star representing the State of Alaska in the upper right hand corner. It was designed in 1927 as the Official Flag of the Territory of Alaska and was retained as the State Flag in 1959.
An Osage battle shield appears on a field of blue bearing a peace pipe and an Olive branch and in white letters the word Oklahoma. The shield is also adorned with crosses which are an Indian symbol of both stars and crossing point as well as seven Eagle Feathers. The feathers on the bottom of the shield were once taught as representative of the Five Civilized Tribes, while the two upper feathers were the symbols of the Commanche and the Apache. Current Oklahoma History no longer mentions the feather's symbolism. The Sky Blue Field of the flag was also used by the Confederate States Indians and this also is rarely mentioned in history texts. (Perhaps modern apologists desire to forget about Oklahoma's Civil War service and the sad legacy of the Trail of Tears in the history of the US.)

The flag that was used as the basis of the design of Alabama's flag was the flag of Scotland. The design was the same with just a few modifications like the color.
The 1861 state flag of Alabama was designed in Montgomery by a small group of women. The flag was referred to as the Secession Convention flag or the Republic of Alabama flag. This was the first of two flags of Alabama.
