Proverbs 20:1 (NIV) says 'Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.' Numbers 6:3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried. Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. Proverbs 23:20-21 Be not among winebibbers.... For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty. Proverbs 23:29-30 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Proverbs 23:31-32 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Isaiah 5:11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them! Isaiah 5:22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink. Isaiah 28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank. Habakkuk 2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken. Luke 1:15 For he [John the Baptist] shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness. Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. Galatians 5:21 Drunkenness ... and such like ... they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Eph.5:18 "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess." Judges 9:13 Wine, which cheereth God and man. Psalms 104:15 Wine that maketh glad the heart of man. Proverbs 31:6-9 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. Song of Solomon 5:1 I have drunk my wine.... O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly. Habakkuk 2:16Drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered. John 2:3-10 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. ... His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. ... Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine ... the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. 1 Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake Alcohol is fine - but not to excess! Drunkenness, however, is a no-no. As with lots of things, take it in moderation!

2 Corinthians 6:17 (King James Version)17Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and TOUCH not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

(Prov 20:1 KJV) Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Now ask your self is something that is"raging" and a "mocker" clean.

Jeremiah 35:5-6 (King James Version)5And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.

6But they said, We will drink NO wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink NO wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:

In these vs. it says NO wine not just a little this means no wine is ok. it doesent say they can drink a little as long as they dont get drunk.

Judges 9:13 Wine, which cheereth God and man

Yes i know there are many vs. such as this one that say wine is good but the fact is this is not talking about fermented wine.

  • YAYIN: Intoxicating, fermented wine
  • TIROSH: Fresh Grape Juice
  • SHAKAR: Intoxicating, intensely alcoholic, strong drink

These are the three definitions of wine in the Old Testament taken from the very first written bible

In any dictionary made in the 1860's or before will say that wine is fermented and unfremented we today have changed the meanings of many words

Believing the word wine every time you see it in The Bible is fermented, would be like saying every time you see the word man in the bible that it is a male all because we today have changed too much.

Answer:

Of course, drinking wine is allowed according to the Bible. It just shouldn't be done excessively... as with all things.

Jesus Christ, the Almighty Creator God of the Old Testament who created the universe ['...all things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made...' - John 1:3]... also created the fermentation process.

When He walked the earth as a man... He drank it.

"...John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil. The Son of Man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber [a tippler, a wino], a friend of publicans and sinners!" (Luke 7:33-34)

Nor is this wine "grapejuice." It's the same word [oinos] used to describe the "drunken" inhabitants of the earth in Revelation 17:2. Grapejuice doesn't intoxicate.

In the proper mix, wine is uplifting and joyful: "A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry..." (Eccle.10:19).

"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine..." (Prov.17:22).

Paul admonishes, however, not to drink wine in front of some people... or eat meat in front of a "vegan"... if it might cause them to "stumble" spiritually, or if it offends them in some way, or if it cause them to be diseased, impotent, sick or feeble in any way. [Rom.14:21]

He also reminds God's Children not to "get drunk" on wine: "...be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess[debauchery; profligacy, showing extremely low moral standards, excessively wasteful]..." [Eph.5:18].

He instructs that "deacons" should not be: "...given to much wine..." (I Tim.3:8). He doesn't tell them to stay away from wine, altogether... but to avoid MUCH wine - referring again to the excesses of Ephesians 5:18.

Paul says: "...use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities." (I Tim.5:23)

At the "last supper" [that Passover night] Jesus told His disciples that, following that meal where He instituted the "bread and wine" symbols" for the future observance of the Passover... "...I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the Kingdom of God shall come..." (Luke 22:18).

The prophecies of the coming of the Kingdom of God speak of a great "wedding feast."

"...I appoint unto you a Kingdom, as My Father hath appointed unto Me; that ye may eat and drink at My table in My Kingdom..." (Luke 22:29-30).

[see also, the parable of the marriage feast of the "King's Son" - Matt.22]

"...Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb." (Rev.19:9)

Who can comprehend the joy and jubilation... and the food that will be served and the wine that will flow at that "wedding feast" at the Lord's table when the Kingdom of God comes to earth?

Jesus says that He will eat the bread and drink the wine again at that table.

"...I John saw the Holy City, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her Husband..." (Rev.21:2).

"A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry..." (Eccle.10:19).

Scripture does not forbid Christians from drinking beer, wine, or any other drink containing alcohol. In fact, some Scriptures discuss alcohol in positive terms. Ecclesiastes 9:7 instructs, "Drink your wine with a merry heart." Psalm 104:14-15 states that God gives wine "that makes glad the heart of men." Amos 9:14 discusses drinking wine from your own vineyard as a sign of God's blessing. Isaiah 55:1 encourages, "Yes, come buy wine and milk…"

And of course, Jesus himself changed water into wine, which was found quite acceptable by the guests (John 2: 1-11).

Alcohol is not, in and of itself, tainted by sin. It is drunkenness and addiction to alcohol that a Christian must absolutely refrain from (Ephesians 5:18; 1 Corinthians 6:12).

As long as you don't drink too much, nothing. Gluttony is when you have too much of anything.
