What does the Bible say about the signs of the times and what do they mean?

Jesus was asked that very question in Matthew the 24th chapter, in the third verse, where the disciples asked, "what will be the sign of your presence, and the conclusion of the system of things."("thy coming and the end of the world"KJ) Jesus reply is of great interest today, because Jesus now gives a sign that we are seeing fullfilled in our time. In verses 7-13 of chapter 24, Jesus states that wars, food shortages, earthquakes, hatred, crime, a lack of love, would all be markings of the time of the end. More indication that we are living in this foretold time, is found at 2 Timothy Chapter 3 verses 1-5, where Paul reports that,"In the last days days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness,�betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away." But what does all of this mean? Jesus, in Chapter 24, verse 14, tells of a worldwide preaching work of "good news." The good news is that of God's Kingdom which will correct all of these problems that we see around us. This is the same kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for in Matthew 6:9-13, where he said," Let your Kingdom come, let you will be done on Earth as it is in heaven" in the model prayer. That prayer also gives us further hope, because we learn that God has a will for the Earth, and that will involves his kingdom, which is soon to come, since we are living in the time Jesus foretold.
