What does the Department of Veterans Affairs do now?

The mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs is to fulfill President Lincoln's promise "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan" by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's veterans.

The VA provide medical assistance, educational assistance, home loan assistance, disability benefits, survivor's benefits, job assistance and burial services are but a few of the departments duties. The VA also maintains all of the National Cemeteries with the exception of Arlington Cemetery.
