With its teeth. First and foremost, nature did 90% of the work, they are white so are difficult to see in snow covered lands.
The Arctic fox is very fast and it's fur camouflages it. It is white or slate blue during the winter and a dull brown during the summer. It does not really fight back and it is sneaky and wise. I am doing a science project on arctic foxes and I have been very disappointed with the answer on this subject of how it protects its self. I wish I had more answers to give you, but this is the best I can find.

When fighting another arctic fox, they will first yell and charge each other, like a game of chicken. Most of the time a fight ends here, but sometimes they will fight via teeth and claw like toe nails. When threatened by a polar bear they will run away. I can't think of any other animal they would (naturally) come into battle with.

Arctic Foxes, despite being fiercely territorial, often find themselves being hunted.

Their most dangerous enemies are human fur-hunters, wolverines, polar bears and golden eagles.

Arctic Foxes have very razor-sharp claws. They will often work as a team, or a pack, to defend one another from predators, using those claws to slash the predator, as well as attempts to bite the predator's throat with their sharp teeth.

When outnumbered, overwhelmed, injured or caught off-guard, the Arctic Fox will run to the nearest burrow with super-fast speed, either to hide in safety or to call the rest of the pack to defend him/her.

They are also expert and fast swimmers and are able to swim in the freezing water for a while to escape their predators.

Arctic Foxes are also natural masters at camouflage. Their fur coats change colour depending on the season. From pristine white, silver-blue and brown.

Their camouflage enables them to hide from most predators. Particularly against airborne predators, such as the golden eagle.

The camouflage doesn't particularly work well against polar bears because they are still able to use their sense of smell to sniff the fox out of hiding.

Arctic Foxes also live in large, complex but smartly designed burrows beneath the tundra. When their young are threatened by smaller predators, the Arctic Fox uses it's cunning smartness and teamwork to deliberately confuse the small would-be-puppy-predator in the complex burrows. And then flank and kill it.

A lot of burrows and dens are centuries old, lived in for generation after generation. Because the burrows are so complexly cleverly designed, there's no reason for the fox to constantly have to relocate habitat.

Of course, not relocating their habitat makes them in severe danger to human fur hunters, who return year after year, because they know exactly where the foxes will be.

Humans and the hunting dogs that tag along with them are the Arctic Fox's deadliest predator. They simply have no defence against man-made weapons.
