The appearance of the sun, moon, and stars are all caused by earth's rotation. The earth will rotate on its axis, going very slowly around and around, which will cause the earth to make the sun pass on to the other side of the earth. And then when the sun goes down, the moon will appear on the horizon, moving in a straight line across the sky, slowly.

The full moon can be spectacular. It does depend on how clear the sky is, and on your surroundings. On a clear night in the middle of New York City, it would be awe-inspiring. I have gone cross-country skiing in Vermont by the light of the full moon; the most other-worldly experience I've ever had. Same moon, same phase, different kind of experience. The luminosity of the full moon will obscure many other objects otherwise visible in the sky; this is not the best time for star-gazing in general.

The sky on the moon would be pitch black during the day as well as the night. This is because there is extremely little (as good as none) atmosphere on the moon to scatter the light like on Earth.

No. That's the most difficult time to try and see the stars.

The easiest time to see the stars is during the night, at a time when there is

no moon in the sky.

"Full Moon" is the moon that's in the sky all night. Every other visible moon phase

is in the sky for a part of the night, and gone the rest of the night.

"New Moon" is not visible in the sky at any time of the day or night.

The moon is full once every 29.5 days. When that happens, it rises in the east
at just about the same time that the sun is setting in the west, and it stays in
the sky all night. Everybody in the world sees it.

To a casual observer, the moon appears as good as full from a day or two before
until a day or two after.

It is at the point in its orbit that is farthest away from the Sun, i.e. behind the Earth. This means that we see the entire illuminated half of the Moon. This can also result in a lunar eclipse if the Earth's shadow falls across the Moon.

The Earth is directly between the Sun and Moon, but slightly above or below their plane.

Imagine a line....

m.e..................................................................S

(There should be about 166 dots between e and s for a proper distance scale above).

So, as we gaze at the moon from earth's night side, it looks fully illuminated by the sun. The earth, therefore, rests between the moon and sun on the nights the moon is full.

During a Full Moon, the moon is opposite the sun (Earth is between the Sun and Moon) - which is why it looks fully lit to us. During a New Moon, the moon is between Earth and the Sun - which is why we can't see it - the sun's glare makes it impossible to see.

When you are in the city, only a few of the brightest stars are visible. But when you are in a village, you can see many more stars than you can count. Sometimes you can even see the bright belt of our galaxy, the Milky Way. Why is this so? The lights of the city give off background lighting that block the light from all but the brightest of stars. This urban background lighting is called "light pollution", and can be a problem for urban observatories. But there is a form of natural light pollution from the moon, which is the second brightest object in the sky after the sun. The moon can sometimes be so bright, that it too can block out the light from dimmer stars. Which means that you will get to see more stars on a new moon day!
