The She-ma is a saying of the ancient Israelites. It comes out of the book of Deuteronomy. Moses spoke these very words to the Israelites at Mount Horeb commanding them to keep and remember the laws of GOD. Therefore the meaning of the She-ma is the remembrance of obedience to GOD and that he is the one living GOD.
Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

Deuteronomy 6:8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
Deuteronomy 6:9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

Šĕmaʿ: listen, or hear and do (according to the Targum, accept)
Yisrāʾel: Israel, in the sense of the people or congregation of Israel
Ădōnāy: often translated as "LORD", it is read in place of YHWH
Ĕlōhênû: the plural 1st person possessive of אֱלֹהִים Ĕlōhîm, meaning "our God".
Eḥād: the Hebrew word which has the dual meaning "one" and "a unison", its root is also "unique".
