What does the Trans-Alaska pipeline do?

A crude oil pipeline from the North Slope oil fields at Prudhoe Bay to the Port of Valdez.

Construction began in March of 1975 and the first oil flowed through it on 22 July 1977.

The main Trans-Alaska Pipeline runs north to south, almost 800 miles (1,300 km), from the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to the Gulf of Alaska at Valdez, Alaska.
