View finder acts as an eye to capture the image, it lets u decide what sort of image you want to click, or how much light u want in the picture, shutter speed, exposure and everything, its an eye of camera.

The view finder is used for traditional means of framing a scene in Photography. Modern technology poses a threat to the viewfinder with many professional and consumer compact cameras being manufactured without them. However, it is not obsolete. Some photographers prefer the viewfinder over framing a shot with an LCD screen. As such, some leading manufacturers have made an effort to implement the view finder in their DSLRs alongside the LCD screen (many of which use an EVF - Electronic View Finder).

The viewfinder allows you to see what the picture will look like. If you have a rangefinder type viewfinder, you will see an approximation of what the picture will be. If you have an SLR (Single Lens Reflex), you will see pretty much what you will get.
