What does the word aye mean in Rutter's Nativity Carol As in Christ was born for Aye?

Usually in older English texts, "for aye" would mean "forever" or "always." That doesn't quite work here, and since the text is by Rutter, I'm guessing that the words are inserted for rhythm and rhyming purposes. It would probably be close enough to say that it means "for certain."
