Probably nothing - but it could be a sign of something serious such as poor circulation or various heart defects, or even an imminent heart attack. It's probably a good idea to seek medical advice right away.

Tingling and numbness in your arm can mean a number of things, from minor to major or life threatening. The only way to be sure what the tingling means is to consult your health care provider. Read on for more information.

  • If you can't account for the feeling (such as slept on the arm or were in a recent injury) you may well be having a heart attack. Please call 911 or see an ER immediately. Please don't try to guess with something as serious as this could be. Also look out for a feeling of heaviness on your chest, shortness of breath, feeling nauseous, sweating or a general ill feeling. These are all signs of impending heart attack and should be taken very seriously. Keep in mind that many heart attacks involve NO PAIN at all - particularly in women.
  • This could mean a number of things, the next time it happens you need to contact emergency services. It could simply be bursitis in the shoulder or it could be as serious as a heart attack. I would call my physician and see then as soon as possible.
  • It's a symptom of a Heart Attack Call 911.
  • I graduated an EMT-B class last year, and I learned that any kind of numbness or tingling in any extremities would indicate a possible stroke or T.I.A., ( Transient Ischemic Attack or a "mini-stroke"). A heart attack would cause PAIN extending from your chest into either arm and also possibly into your back. Although different people may have symptoms contrary to the typical ones you hear or read about. In any case, the above retort is the best action, better safe than sorry.
  • If you have tingling and numbness in your left arm, it usually indicates a problem with a disk in your neck around C6/C7 (cervical spine). Of course it depends on where the pain numbness is and how far down it reaches. If it's in the upper arm, then it's more likely at C4/5 or C5/C6.
  • The other possibility depending on where your problem is, is that there could be nerve pinching or damage in the ulnar nerve. The ulnar nerve runs down the inside of the arm and into the pinky. You can literally feel the pain all the way down the nerve. When it's pinched, your hand and some fingers will go numb.
  • At any rate, you should be talking to a Neurologist or Neurosurgeon, or a Pain Specialist. I'd suggest a Neurosurgeon first - even though you may not need surgery, they're usually the best and quickest to figure out where the problem is. You'll need to get some pics done as well to verify the problem.
  • Probably nothing - but it could be a sign of something serious such as poor circulation or various heart defects, or even an imminent heart attack. It's probably a good idea to seek medical advice right away.

You are dealing with two different things here... The nerves in the tongue and in the shoulder and arms are not connected. I cannot think of anything that would cause specific numbness in the tip of the tongue, unless it was just after trauma to the tongue (such as a cut, or burn). It depends on where in your arm the numbness is. If it's in the forearm it could be from nerve trauma in the elbow... or trauma to other nerves that run down the arm. If the numbness is just "slight", as described, I would watch it, but not be overly concerned about it... There are a lot of things that happen to the body that occur for no apparent reason at all..!!

Left arm numbness and soreness is likely the result of a neurological problem. Now I am using the more medical way of describing this because I don't want to say "pinched nerve" because that is too vague. The nerves from your brain come through your neck, though the region between the neck and above the shoulder (thoracic outlet) and branch out into different nerves into the arm and fingers. So any where along that path there can be a problem or a few locations of problems. The more likely, but uncertain, (need more info such an examination from a physician) location is from the neck. If the soreness is related to the numbness, which it may be, that could be the result of muscle fatigue. Why muscle fatigue? some portion muscles (muscle fibers) may are not get the best signal from the nerve to work properly so the ones that are working properly are working harder to make up for the ones that are not and fatigue.

These symptoms can be from the heart, lung, stomach, a "pinched" blood vessel or a joint or muscle or skin problem. The proper way to answer this for you is to go to your doctor.

Real simple ... go to a doctor.

The symptom you describe could come from a heart attack, Diabetes, a dislocated shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, neurological problems and a lot of other nasty stuff that will only get worse with time.
