∙ 13y agoThis means someone steals a check, from say a mailbox, and alters the info on the check ,say the persons name the check is made out to, and cashes it at a bank.
Additional: In plain English it means knowingly "passing" a bad or forged check in an attempt to get money, goods, or services in return for it. The one uttering/passing the check does not necessarily have to be the "forger," the only requirement is that the passer knows or has reason to believe the check they are passing is no good.

Added: In common everyday language it is the "passing" of a bad check (i.e.: presenting it for payment). Uttering is an entirely different charge than "Forgery." Forgery means that you actually WROTE the check with intent to defraud.
