The northern snakehead fish is said to not be a threat to humans. However, a more vicious species, the giant snakeheads have reportedly attacked and even killed people who have went near its young. They have been found in Maine, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Snakeheads are illegal in most states and even if they aren't in your state, most responsible LFS won't sell them because of the threat they pose if released into the wild. Giant snakeheads are pretty much the king of fish and can literally clear out an entire eco-system in a lake or pond. Im not so sure how easy it would be to get killed by one of these fish but I have seen them eat fish as large as a 12" bass and just devour it within seconds so I'm sure if they went for your throat or other vital organs you would have a hard time fending for yourself.
